This fall's three OMs' Book Club feature is... "Daring to Rest; a 40 Day Program for Women" by Karen Brody. No matter if you are pregnant, fresh into your postnatal journey or have no children (yet or ever), this book is for everyone! All worn out women needing a healthy dose of SELF-CARE. REST. REVIVAL. I was a tired, burnt out momma. I knew deep down that I needed some serious self care. Nurturance. Renewal. A shift was coming and I wanted to ride those waves with success. With energy and a positive outlook on things.
Even as a yoga instructor, I have struggled with seated meditation for YEARS. YEARS. It never resonated with me; I found it almost impossible to continue on past a few weeks of trying. I'd get a good start and then my practice would wane out to nothing. And kudos to anyone, yoga instructor or not, who has "mastered" meditation. It just wasn't for me. I know how beneficial meditation is... I just couldn't make it work. Enter frustration and feelings of failure. In fact, I felt like a phony. Shouldn't I walk my talk? Yoga Nidra to the rescue! I was willing to turn this whole meditation practice on it's head and find a way that actually worked for me... today, the next day, and beyond. I am proud to say that I practice Yoga Nidra almost daily... and it is something that I desperately look forward to instead of dreading. : ) Karen Brody's book, Daring to Rest was my turning point. She has a very welcoming and accepting way to share Yoga Nidra with worn out women. Her 40 day program is all outlined is her book; it is very user friendly and brings women together to rest, release and rise. The cherry on the top-- she also includes downloadable Yoga Nidra audio files that match the scripts in her book. A++ Women... we are a species centered on giving, caring, and sacrifice. But our energy and life force runs out if it is not a two way street. Yoga Nidra is the gift of self care. Self love.
